JJT Nursery School, is in Serrekunda. Aris Harrison-Price
has made helping this school her personal project, enlisting
help from many schools, organisations and individuals in and
around Leicester. In 2005, this school had over 130 pupils, with
just one teacher and a dilapidated classroom. Aris has
organised redecoration, arranged the building of toilets,
funded a new teaching assistant and provided educational equipment. The children had not seen anything like the equipment
before. Even at home, there are no toys.
It took a surprising amount of time for the children to learn how to
use things. In this clip, some 8 year olds are playing with a simple shape sorter,
aimed at 2 year olds. It took all of their concentration and
considerable effort to complete the challenge.
