Malaria is the biggest cause of death in The Gambia, particularly in children under five. This gift provides a large mosquito net and insecticide to treat it - both purchased locally. These women are obviously very pleased with their gifts, each of which will protect a woman and her family. (more about mosquito nets)

Pageant is also supporting the Artemisia Project. This is a Malaria treatment programme which uses a tea made from the plant Artemisia Anamed. Pageant is collaborating with the Gambian National Agricultural Research Institute to help village communities grow this plant in their village vegetable gardens.
