Horsham Rotary Club
Every summer, Pageant holds an 'Open House' day for Pageant members.
This year it was on Sunday,
15 July and 52 members attended, together with two Gambians
who were visiting the UK. Ian and Pippa were delighted to welcome
two members of Horsham Rotary Club, President John le Rossignol and
David Daniels, who came to present a cheque for £1000
from their International Committee. Our thanks to all Horsham Rotary
Club members for their generosity. In the picture below are (left
to right) Ishmaila Sanyang (Smiley), David Daniels, John le
Rossignol, Ian, Bakary Congira and Pippa.
Bakary is studying Health Care to work in
up-country clinics in The Gambia, and money raised by charging for
lunch was given to him to help with his work.
The Boar's Head - fundraising evening
Smiley is a barman in a Gambian hotel, and
after the Open House, Ian and Pippa took him to the Boar's Head in
Horsham for a reviving drink. As a result, the landlord, David
Harding, and his wife Laura put on a charity fundraising evening on
27 July, called 'Out of Africa', There was live music, a
raffle, fancy dress and a Gambian mini market. This raised £127 for
Pageant, not at all bad considering the APPALLING weather. Our
thanks to our hosts for all their efforts on our behalf.
Mayor of Haslemere's chosen charity
Ian's brother, Brian Howard, named Pageant as
one of his two chosen charities when he was made Mayor of Haslemere
in May 2006. Fundraising events included a Burns Dinner and a
celebration to mark the Chinese New Year of the Pig. (see
news item on
Haslemere.com) £3700 has been
raised for Pageant during Brian's year of office. We would like to
thank the Haslemere fund-raisers very much indeed, and look forward
to being able to fund a really worthwhile project with this
donation. Brian Howard
