Pageant News 23 September 2008
Pippa reports on loading another container
for The Gambia on Monday 22 September 2008.
You know what they say about senior moments....
I am sure that it was only in April that Tina and I said "Never
Again" as regards shipping a Pageant container.... but here we go
again and another container is now packed up and on its way to the
Harwich docks.
The driving force behind sending this
container was a donation of a considerable amount of infant school
furniture from Southwater County Infants' School, which will be
shared between 6 Nursery schools and 2 Primary schools in The
Gambia. The photos give some idea of the size of the donation.

Another sizeable donation came from Wispers
Girls' School in Haslemere, which has sadly had to close down.
Pageant received about 280 items of white sheets and pillowcases,
which will go to three hospitals and health centres, and a further
400 or so items of coloured bed-linen, which will be shared between
village and family communities in widely spread regions of the
country. Wispers also gave us about 425 white blouses ranging from
28" to 40", which will be shared between schools and village
communities.
Two donations of laboratory glassware (from
Leatherhead Food International and Bishopsgate School) were packed
into 6 large boxes and will be shared between the Science
Departments of 3 Senior Secondary (~A-Level) Schools.

A wide range of other items collected by
Pageant members were also loaded, many of them used to pack between
the furniture to ensure a tightly packed container. These included
clothing (the majority for children), books, toys, tools, sewing
machines, typewriters and more bed-linen.

were 24 smart red chairs donated by Haslemere Town Council.

Our grateful thanks go to our packing team,
some of whom have become really expert during the past few years.
This team comprised Craig, Chris, John, Jeremy, Kathy, Helen, Sue,
Sandra and Ian & Pippa - I am trying to persuade some them to come
to help us to UNload in October!!
