On Sunday 23 November an enthusiastic
audience in Southwater Parish Church listened to a very enjoyable
programme of music by the acclaimed Sussex choir Vivace!, Director
of Music John Sandford. We were delighted that the choir had
volunteered to return after their most successful concert last
November - sometimes 'repeat performances' can be a disappointment,
but this was certainly NOT the case on this occasion. If anything,
the choir gave an even more polished performance and the applause
from the audience left no doubt about their appreciation.
Vivace! at last year's concert
The evening was, as last year, organised on
behalf of Pageant by the Southwater Parochial Church Council, most
of the hard work being done once again by Stephen Chapman, to whom
we offer our very grateful thanks. Our thanks go also to Dominic
Newstead, the Vicar of Southwater, Pat, who made most of the cakes
for the refreshments in the interval - and of course, to the choir
themselves, whose mixture of talent and enthusiasm is so uplifting.

Vicace! rehearsing
before the concert on 23 November 2008 |
As last year, we were treated to a mix of
music - we heard 'The Owl & the Pussy Cat' set to a well-known psalm
chant and Flanders and Swann's 'The Sloth', which was sung while
'hanging' from a tree! Other items ranged from plain song to
Broadway, with some items being performed by soloists or smaller
ensembles, using a variety of musical instruments. We were delighted
that the choir included more African numbers than last year -
specially so as we had brought them a gift from Banjul's Albert
Market of a Gambian drum to add to their instrument collection. The
concert raised £236 for Pageant after paying all expenses.
Vivace! is a small choir of mixed voices based in Ditchling, East
Sussex, which performs with the aim of supporting good causes. They
are well worth going to listen to. Further information on Vivace!
can be found on
their website, where you can also

the 2008 concert schedule. To find
