Pageant News 26 July 2011
Allie Eagle (Alison Mitchell) is a well known
New Zealand artist, influential in the Women’s Art Movement there in
the 1970s and 80s. She has had many exhibitions of her work, which
includes oils, watercolours, drawings and installations. In 2004,
her life and work were the subject of a film “Allie Eagle and me”
directed by film maker Briar March. Allie is sponsoring a
Gambian student, Mola, who is about to start his
second year at the University of The Gambia.

Allie sponsors Mola through Pageant’s
sponsorship
scheme. Their contact has been
purely online, as she has never travelled to The Gambia – or
even to the UK. This is a perfect example of how Pageant’s
scheme can reach across oceans to bring help to Gambian
students.
You can find out more about Allie, her life and her work on this
resource page. A short trailer for the film
"Allie Eagle and me" is on
Youtube,
and a DVD of the full 54 minute film can be purchased from
Artfilms. Allie has also produced a short book,
linked to recent exhibitions of her work, which she is selling to
raise extra funds to help Mola.
