PAGEANT - "Education is the future"
Microscopy Workshops at Upcountry Schools
Microscopy Workshops - May 2019
Pageant has been running annual Practical Science and Microscopy Workshops for more than nine years. These are normally held in February in conjunction with Gambia College, and are mainly run by scientists and microscopists from the UK. [see summary of previous workshops] Pageant's Gambian agents Wandifa, Yankuba and Abdoulie, provide invaluable help at these workshops. They have built up considerable expertise, particularly in the use of microscopes, and now run microscopy workshops in Gambian schools which have received microscopes donated through Pageant. Our three guys do a really good job with the microscopes these days and we get good feedback from the schools they visit. The schools are delighted to get equipment and teaching materials, but these would be useless without this training.
In May 2019 Wandifa, Yankuba and Abdoulie held workshops at four upcountry schools. All are in or close to Kafuta, a village on the South Bank Road which heads up-country on the south side of the Gambia River. It is about 40km from Banjul or about 25km from Brikama. Yankuba has sent us the photos shown below.
Bulok UBS & SSS
The first schools visited were Bulok Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools. Bulok (also spelt Bullock or Bullok) is a few km further along the South Bank Road, between Kafuta and Bessi (Besse).
Kafuta UBS & SSS
Sohm UBS & SSS
Sohm is a village about 2-3 km south west from Kafuta - off the South Bank Road.
Sutu Sinjang BCS
Sutu Sinjang (also spelt as a single word Sutusinjang) is a village on the South Bank Road further on from Bulok towards Bessi (Besse).
