Saturday 18 Feb Independence Day, all roads closed in Banjul am

Visited Kemo's compound pm, met many sponsored children, distributed many of the items bought with Gift Token money plus gifts from sponsors

Saturday evening again, so another buffet supper at Indian restaurant (more Brits & Gambians, our regular meeting place)

Sunday 19 Feb Got up at 5.15am, trip across river to see Bakary Gitteh's village, Sika.

Called in at Juffreh café first, met Ousman, continued to Sika.

Celebration dancing from village women, breakfast, discussions with Mariama re Pageant loan, lunch, met women's group who had taken up loan (all were up to date with repayments), presented gifts to village community, return on ferry at 6.30pm. Monday 20 Feb Physics Practical lesson at Gambia SSS (story and pictures) - very successful, children all keen and enthusiastic, demos went very well - a great couple of hours or so. Presented prizes for microscopical drawings.

Visit to Kemo's compound pm for hair braiding (Frances & Helen).

Pippa helping with reading

Pippa & Tina visited Wandifa's compound, met more sponsored children, did some reading with children, saw new building being made from mud blocks.

Tuesday 21 Feb

Final discussions with Kemo & Wandifa, handed over last batches of money.

2 hour delay in coach pick-up due to visit by King of Morocco.

Eventually departed Banjul about 1 hour late, arrived Gatwick ~ 11.30pm.
