Omar Janneh, Science Co-ordinator from Sinchu
Baliya Lower Basic School, is visiting the UK this summer.
He visited the MICROSCIENCE
exhibition and conference at Excel in London. (Microscience
website) There he was presented
with his bursary for the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS)
Light
Microscopy Summer School, which is being run at York University
during July. Omar is the first recipient of this Developing World
Bursary, which is to be offered annually from now on. It provides
all-expenses funding for a student or educationalist to attend one
of the RMS courses in UK. In addition to the presentation, Omar
spent a wonderful day at the Exhibition, where he was able to look
at a variety of samples in a wide range of both light and electron
microscopes. Expert assistance was on hand from several RMS members
and Omar was particularly pleased to be able to examine some soil
samples he had brought with him from The Gambia. He really enjoyed
it all - he says he has to keep pinching himself to make sure he is
not dreaming!
